A Meeting (Demo)
A downloadable hybrid RPG for Windows, macOS, and Linux
A teenager meets her hero at a local modern occultist convention.
WHAT IS A HYBRID RPG?
The hybrid RPG is a game format which combines a TTRPG-style skill/stat system with a computer-run automatic GM to provide further friction, consequence, and choice within a text-based game.
The hybrid RPG also employs physical dice and a character sheet, seeking to hybridize CRPG and TTRPG formalisms into a sub genre of text-based game which is accessible to both play and program.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN A HYBRID RPG?
Playing as a character already saddled with history within the world of the game, you’ll build their personality in a character sheet and roll die (1d6 required for play) to determine the consequences of your actions.
Test the facets of your BODY, MIND and WILL: A high PHYSIO skill will ensure you’re always in control of your physical form, while points in the CHAOS skill will enable you to more readily feel and understand what lies beyond perceivable experience. There are nine skills to succeed and fail with.
CAN I MAKE A HYBRID RPG IF I WANT?
Yes, absolutely. Take whatever you want from these concepts and throw out what you don’t; ultimately, this format is designed to be used, modified, and salvaged from.
In that way, at its best, this format is just a way of thinking about text-based games which puts more consequence and control in the hands of the player, while only requiring basic knowledge of Twine to execute as a designer or programmer.
